General conditions

Musical competition (further – Competition) within Moscow International Festival of Arts «Sounds of Dutar» named after Nury Halmamedov is an important event in the field of strengthening and preserving national traditions and supporting gifted youth. The peculiarity of this competition lies in the popularization of academic music based on ethno-cultural traditions. The purpose of the music competition is to revive the mutual influence of cultures of different people and promote the unity of society

We hope that everyone, who wishes, by participating in the competition, will also contribute to the formation of a united cultural venue among the people of Russia and the CIS countries.

The competition is held in one round, it is open to musicians from all over the world.

The competition is held in person and online (based on video recordings).

  • November 4 of 2023 – Gala-Concert at Museum and Exhibition Complex of Russian Arts Academy on Prechistenka 19 street, Moscow
  • Within the VII Moscow International Festival of Arts «Sounds of Dutar» named after Nury Halmamedov, there will be a number of events outside of competition:
    • Concert-presentation of Nury Halmamedov’s vocal collection in honor of the composer’s 85th birthday
    • Art Exhibition

Goals and objectives of the competition

  • Popularization of composers whose work is based on ethno-cultural traditions
  • Development of intercultural communication for musicians from all over the world
  • Popularization of national academic art for musicians from all over the world
  • Expansion of performers’ repertoire.
  • Exchange of experience and information between performing musicians and teachers of educational institutions in the field of culture and art of the Russian Federation and foreign countries.

Terms of participation

  • The competition is held in one round.
  • The results of the competition are announced no later than the day of the final Gala Concert of the Festival
  • The competition accompanist services.
  • To participate in the competition, you must submit an application. All applications are accepted only in electronic form from the contest page or to the email address: festival.sounds-of-dutar@ mail.ru
  • A receipt for payment of participation is sent to the participant after consideration of the application.
  • Changes in the program of the competitive performance are allowed no later than October 10, 2023. After this date, changes will not be accepted!
  • • The Jury may request a copy of the sheet music of the works performed by the contestant. Performance by the participant-soloist of the competition work from the music sheet is not allowed!
  • The organizing committee may request a copy of the passport or birth certificate of the participant after his registration for the competition
  • The competition is held in the order established by the Organizing Committee. The procedure for conducting is established at the meeting of the Organizing Committee after the end of the acceptance of applications before the start of the competition.
  • The conditions of the competition site, the program of the competition and the schedule by days and hours will be posted on the page of the competition in the «ORDER OF PERFORMANCE» section after the end of applications.
  • If the contestant is late for the audition, he can only be admitted at the end of the audition of the participants of his age category with the permission of the Jury
  • The jury can stop the performance if it exceeds the time limit

Age categories and requirements for the competition program for the nominations of soloists in majors

  • Vocal performing
  • Instrumental performing (by type of instruments: strings, wind instruments, piano, folk orchestra instruments)

Soloists, instrumentalists and vocalists in 5 age categories are allowed to participate in the competition:
А. Children – up to 9 years old
(a)– preparatory – under 7 years old
(b) – children – 8 and 9 years old
B. Young musicians – from 10 to 12 years old
C. Middle age category – from 13 to 14 years old

Soloists of age groups A, B and C must submit 2 works.
Time limit: no more than 8 minutes.
The performers ' repertoire consists of two parts: the first is a work of Baroque composers (1600-1750) or classicism era. The second is a work by a composer of any country based on ethnocultural traditions.

D. Youth age group – from 15 to 17 years old
E. Seniors age category – from 18 years old with no upper age limit

Soloists of age groups D and E must submit 3 works.
Time limit: no more than 15 minutes.
The performers ' repertoire consists of three numbers: the First is a work of Baroque or classical composers. The second is a Work by a composer of any country based on folk musical traditions. The third – at the choice of the participant.

Ensembles

The age category of the ensemble is determined by the Organizing Committee according to the age of the largest number of participants. The presence of participants from another category – up to 20% of the total number. If you find it difficult to determine the age category, don't hesitate to contact us.

Age category A – up to 12 years old
Age category B – from 12 to 14 years old
Age category C – from 14 to 16 years old

Soloists of age groups A, B and C must submit 2 works.
Time limit: no more than 12 minutes.
The performers repertoire consists of two numbers: the first is a work by a national composer of any country based on ethnic and cultural traditions, and the second is at the contestant's choise

Age category D – from 18 years old with no upper age limit

Soloists of age groups D and E must submit 3 works.
Time limit: no more than 15 minutes.
The performers repertoire consists of three numbers: the First is a work of Baroque or classical composers. The second is a work by a national composer of any country based on ethnocultural traditions. The third – at the choice of the participant.

Criteria for evaluating performances

  • The jury’s evaluation is based on a 100-point system by closed voting.
  • Grand Prix-awarded to one contestant who scored 100 points
  • First place – awarded to one contestant who scored 95-99 points
  • Second place – awarded to one or two contestants who scored 90-94 points
  • Second place – awarded to one or two contestants who scored 85-89 points
  • The title of Diploma winner is awarded to contestants who have scored from 80 to 84 points
  • Diploma Of the contestant – awarded to the contestants who scored 79 points or less
  • The contest results (points) will be published on the contest's website
  • The jury's decisions are final and cannot be reviewed
  • The brightest performances, chosen by the jury, will be offered for the final Gala Concert, which will take place on November 4th.

Prizes and awards

Established annual scholarships for the winners of the Grand Prix of the competition.

  • Diplomas, prizes and awards are presented at the closing ceremony of the competition to the contestants or their representatives (distribution of diplomas, prizes and awards is also provided) The organizing committee sends prizes and awards to participants who left the competition before the closing ceremony
  • All participants are awarded Diplomas, according to the received competitive points.
  • Teachers of the contestants are awarded with Recognition Letters.
  • Concertmasters of the 1st degree Laureates are awarded with special Diplomas.
  • Partners of the competition may establish special prizes for participants, teachers and accompanists.
  • Certificates for free tickets to events held at venues in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities (concerts, festivals, exhibitions, theaters).

Financial conditions

Participation fees:
Soloists of age groups A, B, C-2500 rubles.
Soloists of age group D, E – 3000 rubles.
Duets – 3500 rubles per team
Ensembles from 3 to 5 people – 4500 rubles per group
Ensembles from 6 people – 8800 rubles per group
the registration fee includes:

  • One festival booklet for each soloist or ensemble member
  • Diploma
  • Prizes and awards, according to the received competitive estimates

 

Required documents for registration of a participant

To participate in the competition, you should send it to the Organizing Committee by e-mail before October 1, 2023 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. the following documents:

  • Application for participation (with a full indication of the executable program, the order of performance, the title of the work, the name and surname of the authors).
  • Biography in free format.
  • Information about participation in other performing competitions and received titles - if available.
  • A portrait photo for the booklet with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
  • Contact information.
  • Video recording for participants in online format.

Requirements for videos sent to the competition

Participants must send for each individual application a separate link to view the video in the Cloud services such as Mail.Ru, Yandex.Disk, Google Drive; Youtube, social networks. Links to file hosting sites that require downloading files will not be accepted.

Requirements for competition materials:

  • All speeches are sent with separate links to each individual entry. Only links to view videos and photos are accepted! File placement options: Cloud services Mail.Ru, Yandex.Disk, Google Drive; Youtube, social networks. Files must be in the public domain throughout the duration of the competition and until the date of publication of the results. The recording of the performance must be made in the horizontal position of the screen. The entry must be continuous from the beginning to the end of the recording. Editing is not allowed.
  • The recording must be made with a camcorder or smartphone with high quality video resolution. Amateur recordings are allowed if they are in high resolution, with a clear image, without judder. Poor quality videos may not be allowed to be judged by the jury or affect the final score.
  • • Sending an application to the competition means the consent of the participants to the use of materials by third parties (representatives of the organizing committee, members of the jury, other participants in the competition), as well as the publication of competition materials in social networks and promotional materials of the competition.
  • • Resolution: Contest video must be 720p (HD Ready) or higher (e.g. 1080p (or Full HD) Sound must be recorded in real time in live mode, separate recording of sound with subsequent overdubbing is not allowed. Usage of an external microphone without processing overlay is allowed.
  • • Breakdown of competition numbers into separate video files is allowed. The organizing committee of the competition is not responsible to the owners of copyrights for the works performed by the participants. Responsibility for observance of copyright, related and other rights refers to the participant.
  • Materials that do not meet the above requirements may not be allowed to participate in the competition.

The exact date, time and place of the auditions will be posted on the Contest website no later than October 20, 2023.
